All Light is Past
—-
All light is past and our skin weighs eight pounds
Like the stars we are made of that die and swell and fall together,
we are forever shedding our external layers, made new again each year
I don’t understand this kind of science yet, somehow,
it is the only thing that makes sense to me anymore
We are stardust and that must be why it burns so much,
because our bodies are memories of fiery explosions
in a constant state of regeneration
One day soon I’ll no longer be wearing the same skin I wore
when we were last together
